Rain or shine big thanks to Peter and his dedicated group of volunteers for doing a great job over the autumn and winter cutting down the sapling growth along the bed of the canal. Fortunately, Peter managed to pick mostly nice sunny days. The map of the Leasowes shows where the work has been carried out. Our Sense monthly trip on Tuesday was an interesting weather day, high wind, sunshine, rain, hail and snow, but fortunately no flood in Birmingham. But with a warm coal fire it was cosy on the boat. Thanks to Jon for arranging with cups of tea and our favourite ginger biscuits and Jaffa cakes. One stop at the Mailbox to visit the BBC and the Cube. Hope you like the pictures. ... See more

Bit unusual to give 3 presentations in 5 days but very worthwhile. Thanks for the huge interest shown, also donations to our restoration fund and offers of help. The Canal became part of the BCN in 1846, and discussing the history was challenging. The Labour group kindly offered to help with Newsletter distribution and linking to schools. Also very lively discussion and questions from the Nifty Fifties group with lots of engagement and support for the canal. Interesting reminiscence of boats on the canal with one member remembering the blacksmith shoeing the horses pulling the boats. Like a presentation? - E-mail nbhugh@gmail.com ... See more
